Hey guys,

I have finished my section of the report and have written an introduction. I don't mind if you want to edit it or scrap it!!!

In terms of word limit including intro I am up to approx. 1,200 if we take out quotes and references etc.

I have found a good quality audio from our stories site with some kids talking about malaria. I think we will need to send Our Stories an e-mail to ask for permission to use it in our presentation. Although it is 4 min long we could use approx 1-2 min as there is a suitable place to stop. Take a look at:

I have also been thinking about names and have come up with some very naff ones:

- Tell tale
- Life works
- Third life (as in 3rd world countries) - I'm sure you will come up with some much better ones!!!

Am just about to upload my docs to Google - let me know if you don't get them.

Have a good weekend! Jemma -x-

Hey team!

I've done a bit of research on how to perhaps cost and promote this bad-boy which I will discuss with you next week sometime.

Costing is difficult as we won't be charging for our service and the likelihood of developing large enough advertising revenue to fund this is pretty remote. We may have to rely on funding from organisations such as JISC etc. We may also be able to dabble into our own bit of e-commerce by selling various things associated with our repository such as t-shirts, audio stuff etc. Sponsorship is another feasible option, though these are perhaps unstable revenue streams.

Promotion may include research into who will use the site and targeting them with a promotional website.  The promotional site would not contain a database, but web pages simulating a database-driven site. We an then gain feedback and capitalise on every aspect deemed to be a success when we promote it at a second phase. We need to show constant initiative in terms of promoting, so constant updates and promoting the repository to people who have strong connections with the area of the world our new update comes from will be important. The idea of a community in our site may best achieve success in generating interest.
Of course links to major organisations will help too. If we build it, they will come!!!

Digital Library??

I have had a look on the excellent site that Jemma found http://www.ourstories.org and i came up to the conclusion that creating another site or even an e-book might not be in actuall need since the site exists and we need to justify various issues if we go for the e-book...on the contrary i beleive that a digital repository, archive, library you name it...it is actually needed in order the stories to be catalogued, preserved and be searchable in a more explicit way than the cataloguing the individuals provide...then it will be used from teachers, researchers, publishers etc.
I had a small search and i found some interesting articles towards that direction...the software to build a digital library, exists, is open source it is around for a couple of years and is used from universities in order to build academic repositories.. i will bring the articles tomorrow with me and we discuss it on the spot...
think of that option and see u soon..
